FAQs
Everyone’s story is different, and so are their questions. Here you’ll find honest answers about how the process works, what to expect, and how we make sure it always feels relaxed, enjoyable, and true to you.
How does the process work?
It starts with a relaxed chat. Once you’ve booked your package, you’ll fill in a short form to help guide the conversation. During your interview, you simply talk and I do the rest. From there, your words are shaped into a written story that captures your voice and personality. The text is carefully edited, designed, and printed as a keepsake. Human editing is central to the process, with AI used only where it helps with accuracy and consistency.
What’s included in each package?
Every package includes recorded interviews, professional writing and editing, book design, and one printed copy (some packages include more). You can add extra interviews, photo pages, or additional copies if you want to expand your story.
Where do the interviews take place?
Interviews can be done online, over the phone, or in person if you’re nearby. Most people prefer a quiet chat at home with a cup of tea. You don’t need to prepare or perform. Just be yourself.
I’m nervous about being recorded. Do I have to?
Yes, but only for a good reason. Recording helps capture your natural voice and phrasing so the writing genuinely sounds like you. Recordings and transcripts are kept private and are only used to create and check your story.
Is my book written by AI?
No. Your book is written by me. I conduct the interviews, decide the structure, and shape the final narrative. AI is used as a supporting tool at certain stages, but it does not author the book or make creative decisions.
How is AI used in the process?
AI is used in three practical ways: to transcribe recorded interviews accurately, to help create an early working draft from spoken conversations, and to assist with technical editing checks such as grammar and repetition. All rewriting, shaping, and final editing are done by a human.
What if I don’t like how I sound or what I said?
Don’t worry. Nobody ever reads the raw transcript except me. You’ll get to review and approve every word of your written story before it’s designed and printed.
Will my story sound generic or machine-written?
No. The AI-assisted draft is only a starting point. I rewrite and reshape the text carefully so it reflects your voice, personality, and way of seeing the world. The finished book reads naturally and feels true to you.
Can I include photos or memorabilia?
Absolutely. Photos bring stories to life. You can send them digitally or I can scan prints for you. Some people also include letters, recipes, or artwork. Anything meaningful that adds texture to your story can be included.
How long does it take from start to finish?
Usually four to eight weeks, depending on the package and how quickly you review your drafts. If you need a book for a specific date, let me know and I’ll always try to make it happen.
How do you handle personal or sensitive stories?
With care and respect. You decide what’s included and what’s kept private. Nothing goes to print until you’ve approved it fully.
What if I’m not a confident speaker or writer?
That’s completely fine. Most clients say they forget they’re even being interviewed. My job is to make the process enjoyable and to find the heart of your story in your own words.
Can I order more copies?
Yes. You can order as many copies as you like at cost plus a small markup. Many families choose to order extra copies to share with loved ones.
How do I choose the right package?
Each tier is based on time and depth. Shorter packages work well for snapshots or gifts, while longer packages allow space for full life stories. If you’re unsure, I’m happy to talk through what would suit you best.
How do I book?
You can book online through the website or get in touch to chat about options. Once you’ve chosen your package, we’ll schedule your first interview and get started.
Still have a question?
I’d love to chat. Get in touch and we’ll talk it through — no pressure, just conversation.
