How it Works

Capturing your story is simpler than you think.

Every great story starts with a conversation

At True North Stories, we make it easy to turn your memories into something lasting. We create beautifully written, professionally designed books that capture your voice and your journey. Whether you want to record a life story, a family history, or a shared adventure, our process keeps things relaxed, personal, and deeply human.

Step 1:

Begin the Journey

Start with a short consultation call.
We’ll talk through what you’re hoping to create, who the story is for, and what kind of book feels right. I’ll explain how the process works, including how interviews are recorded, transcribed, and shaped into a book. Once you’re ready, I’ll help you choose the right package and send a short questionnaire to help guide our conversations.

Step 2:

Settle In and Share

We chat. You talk. I listen.
Each interview is a relaxed, recorded conversation that unfolds naturally. I guide you through memories and reflections, following what feels important rather than sticking to a script. These recordings become the foundation of your book and are later transcribed so your words can be worked with carefully and accurately.

Step 3:

The First Draft

Your interviews are carefully transcribed and shaped into an initial written draft. This first version captures the structure of your story and the details that matter most.

From there, I rewrite and refine the text by hand, shaping it into a clear, third-person narrative that reads naturally and feels true to you. Tone, pacing, and voice are adjusted with care so the story sounds like a person, not a record.

You’ll receive this first draft to read through, comment on, and add to.

Step 4:

Design and Finishing Touches

Once the words are settled, your story is paired with photographs, page layouts, and a design style that suits the tone of the book.

Every detail is checked for clarity and consistency. Names, dates, and phrasing are reviewed carefully, and you’ll receive a digital proof to approve. Changes can still be made at this stage to make sure everything feels right before printing.

Step 5:

Your Book Arrives

Your finished book arrives by post, carefully wrapped and ready to keep or give.

Nothing is printed without your approval. Every book is read, checked, and signed off by me before it leaves my hands.
